Effective information technology (IT) management is a critical discipline for organizations to reduce costs, increase profit, expand into new markets, and gain a competitive edge. This certificate program is intended to help IT professionals and managers more effectively manage existing resources, implement new technologies, and efficiently use existing technology to maximize their IT investments.
IT managers play a critical role in the design, implementation, and administration of technology solutions within their organizations. They plan, coordinate, and direct research related to an organization’s technology infrastructure. In consultation with other managers, they help determine the goals of an organization and then implement technology to meet those goals. They oversee all technical aspects of an organization, such as software development, network security, and online operations.
Career Growth
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for Computer and Information Systems Managers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations, 17 percent over the 2008-2018 time period, so job prospects should be excellent. New applications of technology in all career fields will continue to drive innovation, demand for workers, and lead to demand for highly qualified and effective technology managers.
Professional Qualifications and Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in a technology or computer related field is usually required for management positions, although employers sometimes prefer a graduate degree, often in information technology or an MBA with technology as a core component. The vast majority of managers possess advanced technical knowledge gained from extensive experience in information technology related occupations.
